Repeat Survey
For decades, the Federal Institute of Public Health (BIÖG) has been promoting research on key topics such as family planning, contraception, sexuality education and how young people deal with sexuality. Three representative repeat surveys provide in-depth insights into sexual behaviour in Germany.
Based on these results, the BIÖG develops measures and concepts in the field of sexuality education and family planning – within the framework of its legal mandate under Act on Assistance to Avoid and Cope with Conflicts in Pregnancy (SchKG).
Contraceptive Behaviour
How do people find out about contraception? What methods do sexually active people use? What influences their decisions?
For over twenty years, the Federal Institute of Public Health (BIÖG) has been analysing contraceptive behaviour in Germany with the help of representative surveys.
Youth Sexuality
What are young people's attitudes towards sexuality, relationships and contraception? What do they know – and where do they get their knowledge from? What sexual experiences do they have? And how do parents view these issues?
Since 1980, these questions have been the focus of regular, representative surveys, which are currently funded by the Federal Institute of Public Health (BIÖG).
Family Planning
How do women and men plan their families over the course of their lives? How do relationships, life circumstances and the desire to have children influence pregnancies? How do they affect (unwanted) childlessness? And how do social, economic and legal conditions influence these decisions?
These questions are being investigated in large-scale studies, some of which involve surveys of over 19,000 women.
